DOWNLOAD TROUBLESHOOTING
Why is my TikTok download not working? 10 common causes and fixes
A missing save button, a broken share link, and a file hiding in Downloads need different fixes. Start with the symptom, then work through these checks.
You find a clip worth keeping, tap download, and get an error, or nothing happens at all. Before you keep retrying, check where the process stopped: inside TikTok, while loading a link in a web downloader, or while saving the finished file to your device.
This guide covers all three. LitTik can help you preview and download available public media, but availability depends on the post and the source. A watermark-free version, when available, does not restore missing media or grant permission to reuse it.
Part 1: Privacy, account, and content restrictions
1. The creator disabled native downloads
If the Save video button is missing from TikTok's Share menu, the post may not allow downloads. TikTok's download guidance says native saving is available when the creator allows it. A missing button alone does not tell you whether music licensing is involved.
What to do: Respect the creator's choice. Ask for a copy if you need one. For your own content, check your download settings or use your original export. A public post is not a guarantee that every downloader can save it.
2. The post was deleted or its visibility changed
A post can disappear between watching it and opening its link elsewhere. The creator may delete it, make the account private, or limit the audience. Content already loaded in the app may still appear briefly after public access changes.
What to do: Reopen the original post and check its public browser link. If it has been deleted or made private, LitTik cannot recover it or bypass its privacy settings. A failed browser request alone does not confirm either condition or show whether an account was banned.
3. The post requires a login or age check
Some content is available only in an eligible signed-in session. Being able to watch it in your app does not mean an external service has the same access.
What to do: If the browser asks you to sign in or confirm eligibility, use TikTok's own viewing and saving options where available. LitTik does not use your TikTok login or provide access to age-restricted or login-only content. A browser login prompt alone does not establish whether a post is restricted.
4. Availability differs by region or network
Your phone and a downloader's upstream provider may reach TikTok from different locations and networks. A post working on one connection can still fail on another; a single error does not identify a regional block.
What to do: Check the post on your usual connection. If you use a VPN, try your normal connection and reopen the link. Switching between Wi-Fi and mobile data can help identify a local network problem. A longer URL will not remove a content restriction.
Part 2: Link and format issues
5. The URL is incomplete or points to the wrong page
A copied caption, truncated URL, profile, or hashtag page may not identify the video you meant to save. LitTik supports public profile browsing, but a post URL is the clearest way to request one specific item.
What to do: Copy from the post's Share menu and remove surrounding text. A full video link looks like https://www.tiktok.com/@username/video/123456789. Check that the address opens the intended post before retrying.
6. A short-link redirect failed
Links beginning with vm.tiktok.com or vt.tiktok.com usually redirect to the full post URL. A network filter, redirect error, or temporary source problem can interrupt that step.
What to do: Open the short link in a browser. If it resolves to the post, copy the full URL from the address bar and retry it in LitTik. If the short link never opens, copy another link from the original post.
7. An old link or download URL no longer works
A saved share link may stop resolving even when the post remains available. Separately, a direct media URL supplied by a downloader can be temporary. Neither failure proves that every TikTok share link expires on a fixed schedule.
What to do: Reopen the original post and copy a fresh share link. If an old download button fails, resolve the post again to request current download options rather than reusing the old media address.
8. The post is a photo carousel
A slideshow is a set of images, so a tool expecting only a single MP4 may not handle it. Photo post URLs can contain /photo/; swipeable dots or an image counter are another clue.
What to do: Use the LitTik photo downloader for available images individually or as a ZIP. Do not expect an image archive to be a video with music. Our photo slideshow guide explains the options.
Part 3: Browser, device, and platform problems
9. The browser blocked the transfer or saved it somewhere unexpected
If the preview loads but saving fails, check the browser's download status, available storage, and any blocked-download message. An extension or stale browser session can also interfere with a button or file request.
What to do: Reload and request a fresh download, or try another browser. If a blocker reports blocking the expected media download, review the request before deciding whether to allow it for the site. Check free storage before downloading a large file.
On iPhone or iPad: Check Safari's Downloads button or the Downloads folder in Files. As Apple's download guide explains, a web download can be in Files even when it is absent from Photos. Open a compatible video, tap Share, then choose Save Video if available. See our iPhone saving guide for more help.
10. The downloader or its source is temporarily unavailable
When several otherwise accessible public videos fail, the problem may be upstream. Rate limits, service outages, and changes to TikTok's responses can interrupt third-party tools. An error alone cannot distinguish these causes.
What to do: Wait a little, then retry one known public post. If another service failed, try LitTik as an alternative check. If LitTik also fails, avoid repeatedly submitting the same request. Our short troubleshooting guide offers a compact checklist, and you can contact us with the public post URL and error message.
Quick summary: Match the symptom to the next step
| Symptom | Possible cause | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Save video is missing | Native saving may be disabled or unavailable. | Check creator settings or ask for a copy. |
| Video unavailable | Visibility, removal, or an access restriction. | Reopen the original and test public browser access. |
| Invalid URL on a live post | Incomplete link or failed redirect. | Paste the full post URL without extra text. |
| Photo post fails as a video | The tool may not support photo posts. | Use a photo downloader and save the images. |
| Downloaded, but absent from Photos | The file may be in Downloads. | Open Files, then share a compatible video to Photos. |
| Several public posts fail | Service, source, or network issue. | Try another connection or tool, then retry later. |
Frequently asked questions
Can I download a TikTok video from a private account?
LitTik works with available public content. It cannot bypass private accounts, friends-only posts, or login restrictions. If you have permission to view a private post, use the options TikTok and the creator make available.
Why did a video play in my app, but the link says Video not found?
The post may have been removed or had its visibility changed after it loaded. A playback or access difference between the app and browser is also possible. The error alone does not prove that an account was banned or explain why a post disappeared.
Why can't I save a TikTok video with sound?
Check whether the original post still plays with sound and whether your device volume is on. If the source audio is muted, removed, or unavailable, a downloader cannot restore it. If only the downloaded file is silent, try another media player or request a fresh download.
Why is the Save video button missing on TikTok?
Native saving depends on the creator allowing downloads and the post's eligibility. A missing button does not necessarily mean the app is broken. Respect the creator's download settings; public visibility alone does not guarantee a downloadable file.
Where do downloaded TikTok videos go on iPhone?
Safari downloads can be found in the Downloads folder in Files or through Safari's Downloads button. To add a compatible video to Photos, open the file, tap Share, and choose Save Video if that option is available.
